Tactical Navigation, Scouting & Patrolling Course 10-11 October in Avery, Texas

$300.00

Master your craft of navigating the wilderness! This course will provide you advanced navigation techniques to take you to the next level.

Description

Upgrade from basic survival to total mastery of austere mobility. This high-impact course transitions rapidly from a brief tactical classroom induction to grueling field operations, forging novices and veteran operators alike into elite navigators. Expect immediate insertion into unmaintained, hostile environments, requiring a 5-to-10 kilometer tactical foot march under heavy load to master dead reckoning, terrain exploitation, and absolute self-sufficiency when the grid goes dark.

Cost is $300. This is an overnight course, and you must pack and carry all of your equipment (including food, which is not provided).

LOCATION: Avery, Texas at the Sergeant Major Downing Training Center. All coordinating instructions will be sent via email upon registration. If you need to camp the day prior or after the class to reduce your total travel costs, coordinate with Stoker – there’s no need to stay in a hotel unless you want to.

PHASE-BY-PHASE MASTERY BREAKDOWN
  • Baseline Diagnostic & Calibration Assessment
    • Rapid review of foundational grid mechanics to eliminate technical drift.
    • Practical evaluation of topographic map reading, MGRS grid systems, and precise protractor scaling.
    • Field inspection and calibration of your specific issued compass, accounting for localized Grid-Magnetic (G-M) angle adjustments.
  • Autonomous Map Generation (Self-Mapping)
    • Technical production of field-expedient sketches and local topographic data sheets without external reference.
    • Real-time documentation of structural choke points, physical barriers, and defensive terrain assets while in transit.
  • Grid-Down Natural Navigation
    • Dynamic track-keeping utilizing celestial alignments, daytime solar shadows, and biological indicators.
    • Transitioning to non-instrument pathfinding when secondary sensors and optical gear fail.
  • Tactical Route Planning Considerations
    • Calculation of optimal avenues of approach, speed of march, and dead reckoning legs.
    • Advanced terrain-association planning to exploit contour intervals, defilade cover, and masking ridges.
  • Emergency Resection (Unknown Position Recovery)
    • Pinpointing your exact coordinate position on a map when completely disoriented or asset dropped.
    • Utilizing back-azimuth intersection and triangulation from distinct, identifiable terrain profiles.
  • Distant Point Intersection
    • Determining the exact grid coordinates of an unmapped target or geographical point of interest from a distance.
    • Cross-referencing multiple forward-azimuth lines to fix a distant location’s position without setting foot on it.
  • Field-Expedient Direction Finding
    • Emergency manufacturing of improvised navigation instruments using scavenged components and natural resources.
    • Rapid verification of cardinal directions under high-stress survival constraints.
  • Low-Light & Degraded Visibility Operations
