Using a tarp for a shelter doesn’t mean you have to get your butt wet, though most configurations will enable just that unless you have an additional item to use as a ground covering. But there is a shelter setup that combines excellent protection from the wind, rain, and a wet ground.
Not very popular in the United States, but there is a tarp set up called the ‘Gunyah’ named after for the Australian aboriginal huts.
