ARE YOU READY?

When Tench Coxe wrote his famous defense of what would become the Second Amendment, he described a populace beautifully and terribly armed. He wrote that the ultimate power must always remain safely in the hands of the people themselves—calling them “the militia of these states.”

Sam Adams took it a step further. He believed that liberty was a celestial gift, but he knew it could never be preserved by a scattered, unorganized crowd. He spent his life organizing committees, town meetings, and structured networks because he understood that individual courage is only half the battle. Freedom requires a framework.

The Founders didn’t just want armed citizens; they wanted a structured, accountable community capable of maintaining order and resisting tyranny together. They believed in the supreme right of self-defense, but they also believed in the supreme duty of civic organization.

Today, we hear a lot about the rights. We hear a lot about the weapons. But we rarely talk about the actual structure the Founders envisioned to hold it all together. We have embraced the freedom, but we might have quietly dropped the very thing that made it work.
